The Girl With Elephant Ears
They are definitely human ears, but man, are they as big as elephant ears. She just kinda showed up
one day swaddled in a bright green blanket on my doorstep. Of all people,
a 21 year old male poet. I named her Pearl, although many recommended
Ellie. No, that would be too obvious and too cruel. She would never
become Ellie Elephant Ears to her friends at school.
Pearl is a quiet child, although not silent. She enjoys talking about all of the average child things, and her imagination is epic. She always says the color of the sky changes with her emotions. We are trying to figure out how to give her the best education. Public school is obviously out of the picture, and there is almost no way to give her a truly private education. People pass by the window as she plays in the living room to see her, as if they were just on their way to work or the store, but as their eyes peer in and meet mine, I know they were only there to see her.
