Hot Air Balloon Blow Out
There's
a hot air balloon laying out on the field like a huge banana peel. My
family dragged me out to this thing. Only took us several
hours driving to get here. Plus I had to get up early. Nothing should
be walking this early.
It
takes forever for them to start the thing up. The guy who is firing
it up is standing around talking to some other dude. I guess it
doesn't take much attention anyway? Eventually the balloon is
actually living up to it's name as it's globular top stands straight
up. My sister and mom are practically jumping with excitement while
Dad has one of those huge cheesy grins that girls who are meeting
their favorite princess at Walt Disney World wear. If it's not
obvious enough, I was not doing any of these things. No, I'm sitting
here picking at the grass, counting down the time until I can get
home. One of the guys looks up and motions us over.
When
we get into the basket, all three of my family members have their
phones out. It's like I'm not even there, because they're taking
pictures of the trees like they've never seen any before. Trees.
They're just trees. We start floating up into the sky. There are
birds up here, but they're all keeping their distance. I look down
and see the cars on the road below us. It's like looking down on an
ant colony, except you can't squish them. Or maybe that's just where
they are in life. I lift my hand up to my mouth and tapped my fingers
against my lips.
